Rules:

● Kolam drawing duration: 2 Hours (We won’t give any extra time for any reason. Please be there on time)
● A number of participants allowed for one Kollam: 3 maximum (1 – 3 people max in a team). All team members must be TSGW Members.
● Size of the drop cloth/sheet: White of size 4ft x 4ft You have to wait along with your team members at your assigned spot. You are not allowed to do kolam work until we start the timer
● Kolam should be able to include colors.
● Participants can use kolam powder, colored rice, colored play sand, color powder, etc.
● Flowers or Leaves should NOT be used.
● Participants should not show or display preprinted Kolams, stencils, stickers to enhance the
look.
● Scores will NOT be awarded for any accessories accompanying the kolam. i.e kuthu vilakku,
clay lamps, statues, etc.
● Kolam should reflect a theme based on the Pongal festival.(கோலம் பொங்கல் விழாவினை சார்ந்த ஒரு கருப்பொருளை பிரதிபலிப்பதாக இருக்க வேண்டும்.)
● TSGW / Washington Tamil Sangam should be written near the Kolam
● Things to bring by the participants: Everything needed for the competition except the drop cloth/sheet. Please bring cleaning supplies. Rangoli or any type of kolam is accepted. Firing up the candles or any Vilakku kinds is not allowed. (Safety reason)
● No participants are allowed during judgment.
Criteria for Judging:

1. Overall appearance/Appeal – 5 Pts
2. Design/Theme – 1 Pt
3. Details/Clarity – 2 Pts
4. Color Combination – 1 Pt
5. Creativity – 1 Pt
Winners will be announced on the stage during an afternoon session
